In a very hot and dry summer only the hardiest plants are bursting with a dazzling array of blooming flowers, attracting a variety of important pollinators like busy bees. Other plants are already post-bloom and bear fruits that serve as a food source for many animals. The smallest and least distinct, however, struggle among the dominant plants not to dry out.
